"A powerful, raw and vulnerable read.”—Olivia Munn, actress, The Newsroom
"Unflinchingly candid. Unspeakably sexy. And oh, so curiously entertaining."—Steve Antin, Golden Globe winner, Burlesque
Imagine if Sex and the City's Samantha discovered she was an
addict and her drug of choice was MEN. Go on a hilarious, inspiring, and at
times, shocking journey as Roxanne conquers her fears, changes her ways,
gets closer to healthy relationships and begins loving herself a little more
each day.
After years of working as an image-obsessed actress in Hollywood, Roxanne finds
herself at rock bottom from a disease that is anything but glamorous.
In her first year of recovery, Roxanne has to take accountability for her past.
From tales of being mistaken for a prostitute at the Hotel Bel-Air to botching
a threesome attempt with an A-list celebrity, she must face the truth about
herself and stop playing the victim.
Roxanne's odyssey of using sex and love—as destructive and beguiling as an
alcoholic reaching for a bottle—is a veritable rollercoaster of ups and downs,
laughter and tears, and a true testament to facing your absolute truth and
conquering your fears.
Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex & Love Addict has the vibrant,
relatable vibe of chick lit, the soul-baring honesty of
a memoir and the wisdom of a self-help book.
So take a front-row seat into this complex world and the 10 RULES Roxanne
learns along the way.
“Actress Brianne Davis takes us behind the glitz and glamour for a brutally
candid, no-holds-barred look at Tinseltown’s forever-favorite addiction: sex.
You’ll cry... and laugh... as you join her harrowing and hilarious ride to
sex-addiction sobriety.” —Spencer Beck, former editor-in-chief
of LA Confidential, editor-in-chief Los Angeles and contributing
editor at Vanity Fair
“Brianne tells the story of navigating a world where sex and beauty are
commodities to be used and abused by those who have the power. Like Sex and the
City, this is a tale of finding one’s self and reasserting a true feminist
ideal: that your destiny is yours to create.” —Lucy Danziger, New
York Times best-selling author of The Nine Rooms of Happiness and
former editor-in-chief of SELF
“It takes a lot of courage to do what Brianne is doing in this book. To mirror
her life into Roxanne is not only fearless, but wildly entertaining. It’s a
world with so much darkness, yet Brianne has not only found the humor but the
story to bring it to life because lets face it, we all want to know
more.” —Jana Kramer, singer, actress on One Tree Hill, and New
York Times best-selling author of The Good Fight

Excerpt - Chapter Two
Rule 1: The key to getting better and
becoming healthy is admitting you have a problem.
This particular rival was Brittany or
Ashley or something that ended with a Y. Until someone beats me out of a role,
I tend not to learn their name. And checkmate, she never had.
While we were waiting, we did that
uncomfortable dance of looking up and smiling at each other.
Look up. Smile. Look down. Repeat!
I glanced down at her Louis Vuitton
Neverfull MM tote. I saw an audition script for the new Ryan Murphy project
peeking out from the top.
WTF? I
was screaming internally at the injustices during the most challenging time of
my life.
Here I was at my old therapist’s office begging for help, while my life was crumbling
around me—no job, no guy, and five pounds heavier from my excessive comfort
eating. And the nail in the coffin to my bottom—I was not being called in to
audition for a part I was obviously right for and I knew the freaking casting
office. They had cast me earlier that year in a network medical show.
Fuck!
I needed to text my agent right that
freaking minute. I picked up the phone and started to rapidly text, “Hey lady.
Wondering if you heard about the new Ryan Murphy show? One of my friends says I’m perfect for the part of...” Shit, I needed to look
at her sides again because I needed the name of the character.
I casually picked up a copy of Sunset
magazine from the small coffee table and looked down into Brittany/Ashley’s purse. The letters were J. E. N. It had to be Jenny.
My agent, Gail, whom I love dearly,
has been my biggest champion for the last five years of my career. I finished
the text, “Jenny.
Just want to see if you can reach out to DKU casting? Love ya.”
Gail has been with me during all the
highs and lows, and let me tell you, you need someone stable in your corner
when the parts slow down, and you graduate out of the ingenue parts.
Brittany/Ashley and I did that
dance—pretending that we weren’t actually there to work out our shit with a
professional. We were just two young ladies ignoring the obvious while the
Tibetan bowls’ music played in the
background.
The door behind Brittany/Ashley opened
and her therapist gave her a warm smile. She was another classic Mother-Earth-
type—damnit, even our therapist were doppelgängers. Good lord, is nothing
original anymore?
As Brittany/Ashley stepped inside the
room, her therapists turned off the red-light switch as she followed her in and
closed the door.
Fuck! The switch! You know, the little
light switches the patient is supposed to turn on to announce their arrival?
I realized I’d
forgotten to hit mine, so Dr. Kath didn’t even
know I was there.
Way to stay present and alert Roxanne!
I had such a competitive nature that I
started to think less of myself because I forgot to flip the switch.
I felt like a certifiable nutjob.
I turned on the switch immediately
after Brittany/Ashley exited. I felt instant relief to be alone in that waiting
room, not having to stare at my competition while at my lowest point. It was
just too much for me to handle.
Dr. Kath opened her door.
